Senator Eugene J. McCarthy and Family: A dedication.

In the winter and spring of 1968 Senator Eugene Joseph McCarthy challenged President Lyndon Baines Johnson for the Democratic candidacy for the Presidency of the United States.  We were at war in Viet Nam.  Senator McCarthy sought to bring the war to an end.  In the New Hampshire Presidential Primary of 1968 Senator McCarthy won 42% of the vote.  President Johnson won 44%.  Shortly after the primary President Johnson declared that he would not run for a second term.  Nothing like this had ever happened before.

Senator McCarthy’s campaign to become the Democratic candidate for the Presidency of the United States in 1968 came about as a call by those who were opposed to the war.  It was also the result of deep commitment of Senator McCarthy to bring the war to an end and to introduce a new era of leadership of the United States.  .

This website is dedicated to Senator McCarthy and his family.
